The Team

Moving Mountains was founded by two friends, Dan and Jodi, in 2016. Like all the best ideas, the business was thought up one evening in a local pub, and has since grown to offer a huge range of services, work with schools across the South West, and operate our own residential campsite on the edge of Bristol.

Dan Spencer, Company Director

With over 15 years working with young people in the voluntary sector, Dan has always had a real passion for spending time outdoors, and for instilling outdoor skills in young people. He likes nothing more than to sit around the campfire at the end of the day. Prior to starting moving mountains Dan worked within the events industry and in emergency planning, as well as within the voluntary sector. Dan is also one of our qualified archery instructors and is an experienced Bushcraft practitioner.

When not at work, Dan can often be found enjoying a long country walk via a cosy pub!

Jodi Walsh, Company Director

Jodi has spent over 10 years working with young people outdoors as a Guide Leader and Scout Leader, including organising major international and regional events. She was once described (by a ten year old) as the “Mary Berry of outdoor cooking”! When she isn’t delivering outdoor sessions, Jodi is the organised one so looks after the administrative side of the business.

When not working or volunteering, Jodi likes nothing better than to escape for a few days to visit her family on the Welsh coast!

Emily Benington, Outdoor Skills Instructor

Emily joined the team in 2019. Emily is an experienced climber and mountaineer, and also has a lot of classroom experience – including working with young people with additional needs. When she’s not at work, Emily can usually be found on a cliff face or up a mountain

Jon White, Outdoor Skills Instructor

Jon joined Moving Mountains in 2019. He is an experienced Bushcraft Instructor,

Jess McKenzie, Outdoor Skills Instructor

Jess joined Moving Mountains as a part time activity instructor in 2018. When she’s not working for Moving Mountains, she’s studying for a Masters in Heritage Curating or practicing on the archery range. Jess has recently become an Archery GB qualified Instructor.
